On Nitish Kumar and Emerging Bihar

Today I was talking to a colleague at office who belonged to Patna. He did his Architecture from Patna, and did his masters from IIT Khadhakpur. Everybody is seeing visible change in Bihar. Bihar may be growing faster than Gujarat (i suspect both growth stories to the hilt. And yes I am biased)

Amidst all the "Äll Pervasive"scams ( i admire the way Jayalalithaa says Äll Pervasive"!) which are hounding Governments and Politicians all around and Amidst the great resolve which Civil Society has gathered against Corruption . Bihar seems to be the only hope for the country. Bihar- The Ancient Kingdom of Pataliputra - The land of Chanakya and the place where the ancient seat of Nalanda and Taxila are being revived by the efforts of the Indian State provides one and all the feel good factor which makes the Bihar story sometimes, even greater than the India story. . A state that had become the laughingstock of the nation—as much due to its economic failings as to the antics of its leaders—is finally being taken seriously.

The story of Bihar in the past five years has been credited to Nitish Kumar. Delhi's National Media has bestowed him with all sorts of accolades and all sorts of titles. Nitish Kumar has been praised widely for his administrative acumen and his social welfare schemes. Bihar which was once the epitome of "Jungle Raj" is now being identified by the rule of one man

Now that even Anna Hazare and his Çivil Society'activists have also put a stamp on the good work done by Kumar. Everything is perfect.

In a democracy and a mad and a vibrant one like India, Of course there always opinions from the marginalized. Voices of dissent is the order of the day and Appropriately So.

Things crop up. Like every other CM of modern times Graft and Corruption has become the order of the day. Nitish Kumar is also facing one. But Our National Media and Delhi's Chatterati who are bestowing honours to Kumar, Hyping the Anna Hazare protest in an era of 24x7 Televison. And Rightly So, have not mentioned a word against Nitish Kumar- Their Current Darling !

Infact They question Yeddurappa. They Questioned Ashok Chavan. Now They are questioning Ashok Gehlot . But seems like an alleged Rs 11000 crore scam is not raising an eyebrow. And No media house is calling him to answer. So much for the fight against Corruption.
